What Policymakers, CEOs, and Everyday People Are Getting Wrong About AI

AI is here, and it’s evolving fast. From boardrooms to legislative halls to local communities, decisions about artificial intelligence are being made every day. And yet, many of these decisions are based on misunderstanding, hype, or fear.
As someone deeply engaged in AI, ERP, and digital transformation, I’ve noticed a pattern: the people in charge of shaping our future often misunderstand the very thing they’re dealing with.
Here’s what policymakers, CEOs, and everyday citizens are getting wrong, and what we must do to get it right.
1. Assuming AI Is a Silver Bullet
Many executives and governments see AI as an instant fix, an answer to inefficiency, cost, or innovation gaps. But AI isn’t magic. It’s only as good as the data, the people, and the intent behind it.
AI is a tool, not a strategy. It enhances judgment, but never replaces it.
2. Treating AI as a Technical Issue, Not a Human One
Policymakers often focus on regulation without understanding the human impact of AI: displacement, identity, ethics, and trust.
AI must be governed not only with code, but with conscience.
Ethical AI requires leadership that understands humanity, not just engineering.
3. Ignoring the Importance of Education and Reskilling
Many leaders talk about innovation, but forget that human adaptability is just as important as machine capability.
Investing in AI without investing in people creates an unstable future.
Whether it’s digital literacy for citizens or AI fluency for professionals, training must be central to any AI agenda.
4. Assuming AI Understands Context Like Humans Do
A common myth is that AI “gets it.” It doesn’t. AI doesn’t feel context, nuance, sarcasm, or cultural depth.
When CEOs or leaders delegate too much decision-making to AI without oversight, the result is often bias, alienation, or error.
We must never confuse pattern recognition with wisdom.
5. Leaving the Conversation to Technologists
AI affects everyone, so everyone should have a voice in how it’s used. When decisions about AI are made solely by data scientists or tech boards, we miss input from sociologists, artists, community leaders, and educators, the people who truly understand societal impact.
Multidisciplinary dialogue isn’t optional; it’s essential.

AI is not just a technology issue; it’s a leadership issue, a policy issue, and most of all, a human issue.
If we keep getting it wrong, the future of AI will reflect our blind spots. But if we take the time to understand, educate, and engage with clarity and integrity, we can build a world where AI serves us, not the other way around.
